Most members of the ginger family prefer to be planted in a semi-shaded situation. They are heavy feeders and like plenty of water during the growing season. Some species become dormant during the winter months and they should be well mulched to ensure the rhizomes are kept warm.
The fleshy swollen roots of many species including the common edible ginger (Zingiber officinale) are used as food or as food flavouring in many parts of the world |
